1. Stay Home exercise
The IPOB recently held a sit-home exercise aimed at remembering and honoring heroes of the Nigerian civil war.
The world watched to see if the exercise would be honored by the Igbos, and true to their word, the southeast was like a graveyard on May 30.
It was indeed a victory for the pro-Biafrans, as their civil disobedience made a strong statement for their course.
2. Call for Kanu's arrest and Bifra Map controversy
There is no doubt the leader of the IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu has become more popular and highly powerful, following his release from prison.
Kanu is now gaining acceptance from both masses and elites of the southeast.
To a great extent Kanu has become the voice of the Igbos and the "Biafra people", many now see him as both political and spiritual leader.
The more the people accept Kanu, the more they key into his ideology. Biafra is what Kanu has embraced as a calling, hence, the many who have accepted him, have joined in his movement and you can be sure the millions are teeming.
3. Arewa's quit notice threat
The media was recently agog with a quit notice order handed down to the Igbos by the Arewa youths. According to reports the order by the coalition of northern youths, stipulated that the Igbos have just 3 months to move out of the north.
This quit notice order has stirred great debate across the nation.
In reaction to the Arewa "hate speech, Ohaneze issued a statement describing the development as a security threat and a crime against the Nigerian State.
Addressing journalists after an emergency session tagged: “IGBO MANDATE AGAINST GENOCIDE”, the group called on Ndigbo to stay put wherever they were across the country
They, however, said Igbos resident in the North and other areas outside the South-East should get ready to defend themselves on the event of any provocation and attack from the Arewa Youths.
Speaking on behalf of the group, the President of the OYC, Worldwide, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro said the ultimatum was a call for war and should be treated as such by security agents.
Declaring that Igbos are not cowards, he stated that “they are on it again and this is a sad reminder of the civil war. This is how it started as a joke and before we knew it, a coordinated and simultaneous attack was launched against the Igbos in the North.
“This is a sad development considering efforts being made to unite this country; this is a sad commentary considering that sacrifices Igbos have made in this country.
“We, however, wish to state unequivocally that Igbos are not cowards. We are not afraid of Alhaji AbdulAziz Suleiman, Yerima Shetimma and their cohorts."
Afenifere also issued a statement on the issue, saying that quite notice order will be the end of Nigeria.
The Pan-Yoruba political organisation, warned that Nigeria will implode if Northern elders do not call their youths to order.
MASSOB and the IPOB also had their say on the issue, urging all Igbos in the north to return to the southeast.
The pro-Biafrans say it is clear that the time is ripe for Biafra to be achieved.
Judging from history, the quit notice reminds one of the time when many Igbos were killed in the north, a situation which eventually led to the war between 1967 and 1970.
4. Yoruba nation
With the position of Northern youths asking Igbo to quit the North, the outright demand for Arewa sovereignty by the Northern Elders Forum, (NEF), the legitimate demand for Biafra by Igbo and the call for a Niger-Delta Republic the O’odua Nationalist Coalition (ONAC) has called on Yoruba people to prepare for their own sovereign nation.
The group made their position known in a statement signed by Oluwole Suleimann, Michael Popoola and Mrs Aduke Fadahunsi titled ‘Position of the Yoruba Self Determination Groups on the State of the Nation'.
ONAC said the North had always been the aggressor because of the region’s loss of power and the unhidden desire to make Nigeria the irreversible extension of the Fulani emirate.
The group also said that what it sees is violent conflict of civilisations which can only be resolved when each region goes her own way.
ONAC further stressed that in the bid to keep Nigeria as one country, millions of people have been killed and the lives of children wasted, the future pauperized and the potentials of Yoruba young men and women bottled or chained with fetters of iron.
With such a position by a Yoruba group, one can only agree that the continued existence of Nigeria is under great probability.
5. Nigeria's oil debate
The debate over who owns Nigeria's oil is already heated up, in the wake of recent developments.
This too is a great indication that various factions have come to the conclusion that the centre is most likely not going to hold, hence whoever can lay hold on the resources would be the benefactors of the almost inevitable separation.
6. Economic Collapse
One very terrible side to the issue of the Biafra agitation and the possible break up of Nigeria, is the economic crisis being faced by the nation.
The economic crisis is a big indication that the nation might be heading for the rocks soon.
A former governor of Anambra state, Peter Obi, has warned that the Nigerian economy will collapse soon if the federal government does not take immediate steps to arrest the rot in the system.
He also accused the government of not doing enough to alleviate the sufferings of the people even as he decried the high level of hunger and poverty that Nigerians are passing through.
The General Overseer of the Latter Rain Assembly, Lagos, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has issued a stern warning to the authorities in Nigeria.
According to Daily Post, Bakare warned that Nigeria is on the verge of another civil war following the yet-to-be addressed incessant killings of other Nigerians by Fulani herdsmen.
Bakare spoke during his sermon on Sunday, May 28 where he declared that Nigeria “is moving towards another collapse” with the division among different groups and violence in the country.
